Summit: 2019-Sat-Top 10 cycling state
How to raise Oklahoma to be a Top 10 cycling state.
Participants will hear a panel of cycling advocates on their ideas on how we can implement new programs and policies that will improve cycling for all citizens of the state. A question and answer session will follow based on time available.
Tony Carfang is a Software Engineer on the B-52, having joined Boeing in 2015 after
completing his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado.
Tony has 12 years of bike racing experience, including 4 years as an officer of the CU Cycling
Team - mentoring new racers, organizing and promoting races, and officiating.
With his wife, Jennie, he started the Pillows to Pedals Program at Boeing to develop
"interested but concerned" riders into savvy cyclists.
Together, they have actively been promoting employee health, safety and active
commuting within Boeing;
They host Lunch-n-Learns at Boeing covering a range of cycling topics,
and further organize multiple Bike-To-Work day events throughout the year
(3 participants of which have become routine bike commuters).
With much support from Jennie, the Oklahoma Bicycle Society, and BikeOklahoma,
Tony has since expanded advocacy beyond Boeing: becoming a League Certified
Instructor for the League of American Bicyclists;
conducting bicycle safety education for bus drivers at EMBARK;
and this year, expanding Pillows to Pedals to a city-wide program
(with 16 graduates of the program this year).
